BL10 Tianzhu

English Name:BL10-tianzhu
Celestial Pillar

Naming Convention:
“Tianzhu” means the pillar supporting the heavens. “Tian”, here means heaven refers to head. “Zhu” means the pillar of a house. The point is lateral to the trapezius muscle, which looks like a pillar supporting the skull. Hence the name Tianzhu (Celestial Pillar).

Location:
In the depression 1.3 cun lateral to Yamen (Du 15), within the posterior hairline on the lateral side of the musculus trapezius.

Clinical Applications:
Headache.
Neck pain.
Pain in the shoulder and back (combine with Yanglao (SI5)).
Nasal obstruction.
Neck sprain (combine with Houxi (SI3) and Xuanzhong (GB39)).
Sore throat (combine with Dazhui (GV14) and Shaoshang (LU1)).
Insomnia.

Migraine (combine with GB20 and GB21)).

Eliminate wind.
Remove obstruction from the collaterals.
Clear the mind.
Stop pain.
Can maintain good spirits and promote memory if massaged regularly.
