“Cheng” means to hold or take. “Fu” means to support or to hold. The two in combination mean to support and prevent the body from falling down, either with the hands or with the sticks. The main indications of this point is to treat the severely painful syndromes of the hip, thigh and lower back, due to invasion of cold. After needling the point, the pain may be alleviated and the patient will soon be able to give up the stick or the help of the others and stand up by himself, hence the name Chengfu (Hold and Support).
At the midpoint of the transverse gluteal fold.
Lower back pain.
Pain in the hip region.
Constipation (combine with Tianshu (ST25)).
Paralysis, numbness and pain in the lumbar area or the lower extremities (combine with Weizhong (BL40) and Zhibian (BL54)).
Invigorate the functional activities of the collaterals.
Relax the tendons.
